About the Journey

The memorable way to complete a journey to the Winton Camel Races is to come home via the Birdsville Track and beyond, through the Flinders Ranges and out to the edge of Lake Frome. Or on the way up to Races spend two nights in the spectacular gorge country at the Carnarvon Wilderness Lodge – and two nights on the Cooper Flood Plain at Windorah. This tour is about so much more than just camel races.

About the Winton Camel Races

The Winton Camel Races came from a chance meeting between two Queenslanders north of Boulia more than a decade ago. Run now professionally by a local committee, the meeting is supervised by track stewards and attracts at least one bookmaker to the course; jockeys come from as far away as Victoria. The Winton Races do not attract the large crowds of city tourists that are the hallmark of the Alice Springs Camel Races and the famous Birdsville Cup – but a day at these races is Queensland Country at its best.
